The Emergency Food Network (EFN), established in 1982, is a non-profit food distribution center in Pierce County, Washington providing food to over 70 food banks, hot meal sites, and shelters. |
Our mission is to see that no person in Pierce County goes hungry.
Hunger is rarely an isolated problem. It is more often a symptom of a larger problem impacting an individual’s ability to gain and maintain an adequate level of economic security.
While maintaining traditional ways of distributing food, EFN has two additional programs; the Mother Earth Farm and Cannery Project. This creates a more integrated system to deal with hunger.
Second Harvest Inland Northwest
Second Harvest, founded in 1971, is the pioneering organization that leads the fight against hunger in the Inland Northwest. Today, partnerships with more than 300 neighborhood food banks and meal centers make it possible for Second Harvest to feed 48,000 hungry people each week. Food from Second Harvest keeps children, families and seniors from going hungry, and also puts a sense of hope back into their lives. Second Harvest distributed more than 14 million pounds of food last year. Most of Second Harvest’s donated food comes from the food industry. Community contributions pay for transporting, warehousing and distributing this food to partner charities. With generous support from 2,200 volunteers, Second Harvest turns every donated dollar into six pounds of food for a hungry family.
