DONORS
| Food donors call Rotary First
Harvest when they have surplus product to give to our program. |
TRUCKERS
| Rotary First Harvest staff call
their trucking contacts and find a company that can pick up
the donated products from farm, packing house or processing
plant. |
Truckers take the food from
the donor to food bank distribution warehouses (such as the
ones shown here), each serving a number of local hunger programs. |
Usually within
3 to 5 days, Rotary First Harvest food products are in the hands
of hungry food bank clients. |
Rotary First Harvest is able to gather
millions of pounds of wholesome, surplus foods that otherwise would
go to waste. Our network of trucking contacts ensures efficient pickup
and delivery to food bank distribution centers across the state. Every
month in Washington state, community food banks provide nutritious
products to hundreds of thousands of individuals. Over half of these
people are children or elderly.
