Skagit County Community Action Agency offers assistance to those who are eligible for basic food assistance, strengthens local food banks and works to link local farmers with low-income families. The VISTA member is engaging local growers and volunteers to build a sustainable gleaning and produce recovery project. This will increase the quantity and variety of fruit and vegetable donations available at local food banks.

About the VISTA:

Mary is using her experience in farming, cooking and communications to improve the nutrition of Skagit County’s hungriest people. As an AmeriCorps volunteer last year, she established a Victory Garden program to encourage home gardeners to donate excess fruit and veggies to local food banks. She believes in access to healthy food for everyone, along with the simple pleasure of eating fresh vegetables and the enjoyment of slow cooked meals.
