Yakima

Northwest Harvest in Yakima distributes food to 35 food banks in an 8 county area.  There is a tremendous amount of agriculture in the area (including the Yakama Nation), and this VISTA position will mobilize growers in this agricultural rich area of the state to collect and glean unharvested fruits and vegetables to increase access of healthy produce for the food insecure of central Washington.

About the VISTA:

Jackie, a native Delawarean, fell in love with farming and foraging while attending Northwestern University. She has worked in urban and suburban farms for the past two seasons and loves ending the day sunburnt and covered in dirt.  Some of her greatest joys are making feasts from edible weeds and helping others conquer their fear of bees.
