RFH actively solicits donations of surplus fruits and vegetables – typically in 40,000 pound quantities – directly from farmers and processors. While the majority of the produce RFH typically receives has cosmetic or other imperfections that makes it less valuable, it is still wholesome, healthy and packed with nutrients.
Once we’ve found our produce donations, we solicit trucking companies to donate or significantly discount “deadhead” space (trucks coming back empty from a delivery) to deliver the produce from the donor to our partner food bank distribution warehouses in Washington State.
We act as a non-profit produce broker; connecting existing but underused resources within the agriculture, trucking and warehousing industries to collect and distribute millions of pounds of nutritious produce annually to food banks and hot meal programs across Washington through collaboration.
